Critic Notes

An opaque blue/purple color is accompanied by impressively sweet floral notes intermixed with black currant and blackberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied with high but round tannins, the 2010 Boyd-Cantenac is exceptionally well-endowed, textured and pure. This under-the-radar estate (a classified growth in the famous 1855 rankings) never seems to catch the attention of consumers. It deserves better. Enjoy the 2010 for 25 or more years. Chateau Brane Cantenac - Behind the Bottle
Chateau Brane Cantenac has been a consistent performer in Margaux since Henri Lurton took over the property in 1992. But in the last decade the quality has taken another sharp upswing. Even in a mixed vintage like 2014, Brane produced a beautiful wine. 2015 and 2016 were both outstanding and arguably some of the best wines ever made at the ...

Interview with Nicolas Audebert – Chief Winemaker at Chateau Rauzan Segla, Chateau Canon and Chateau Berliquet

Charles van Canneyt - Producer Portrait
Charles Van Canneyt is the young vigneron at the helm of Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat. When Alain Hudelot-Noëllat stepped down from running the domaine in 2008 – a post he had been in for around three decades – he handed stewardship straight to his grandson Charles. Based in Vougeot, this domaine has seen vast improvements in quality in recent years, under the guidance of ...

Fine Wine: Can you define it?
FINE+RARE interviewed wine lovers and wine trade experts, including a couple of Masters of Wine, to answer the age-old question: “What is a fine wine?” Our conclusion might not be quite what you expected… What is a fine wine? Ringo Starr said: “Drumming is my middle name.” He lied. It isn’t. He doesn’t have one. And as most of you ...

2014: THE F+R PICKS. CANON AND RAUZAN-SEGLA
Rauzan-Ségla There are 43 kilometres between Chx Canon and Rauzan-Ségla along with both the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers.  It may seem a little odd to mention the two together though they are two brothers from different mothers, and both are at the top.  They share ownership in the Chanel Group and, until later this year, they share the direction ...
