Critic Notes

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is matured in one-third new oak and includes 80% whole bunch fruit. It has a "serious" bouquet compared to plenty of others that I encountered, more introverted and saturnine, but powerful with layers of blackberry and bilberry fruit mixed with undergrowth and woodland scents. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannin. This feels solid and linear, with chalky tannin and a crisp line of acidity. It is not the flamboyant or extrovert Bonnes-Mares that Groffier has produced in the past—this is impressive, perhaps uncompromising, built for the long-term and therefore it will require 8-10 years of bottle age. Serious. Dec 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2025-2050

Tasted blind, the 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is more persuasive than the Clos de Beze, offering up aromas of ripe cherries, licorice, dark chocolate and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with an abundant endowment of fine but firm tannin that tempers what might otherwise be a flamboyantly ripe core of succulent fruit. This is a creditable Bonnes-Mares from Groffier. Oct 2018, www.robertparker.com

Roberto Voerzio - "Throw Away The Rulebook"
F+R visits the radical winemaker of Barolo Radical Viticulture – Bringing Forward the Harvest Date In the vineyard Roberto Voerzio harvests his grapes up to a month earlier than his neighbours! For Roberto, the autumn fog, cold weather and rain is to be avoided at all costs believing this results in a loss of power and fruit purity. In order ...

Kapcsandy's Roberta Reserve - Behind the Bottle
“...could easily eclipse a great vintage of Petrus in a blind tasting.” Robert Parker (on the 2013 Roberta Reserve) Kapcsandy Estate was set up by the extraordinary Lou Kapcsandy, a man who has lived an eventful life prior to becoming one of Napa’s modern-day superstars. At just 17 years of age he fled Hungary during the Communist Revolution of 1956. ...

Roberto Voerzio – A modernist in the vineyard a traditionalist in the cellar
** ** Does Voerzio epitomise 'Fusionist' winemaking gripping Barolo? Famed for his unique style, miniscule yields and fanatical attention to detail, Roberto Voerzio is a must-have producer for any serious fine wine collector. With only 22 hectares under vine and extremely limited production on these plants (restricted down to 5 bunches per vine), these wines are some of the rarest in ...
