Critic Notes

The Billecart-Salmon NV Brut Reserve is a blend of 40% Pinot Meunier (sourced in the Vallee de la Marne and the Coteaux Sud d'Epernay), 30% Chardonnay (from different villages along the Marne) and 30% Pinot Noir (from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallee de la Marne). The recent disgorgement from January 2018 is straw-yellow in color and based 40% on the 2015 harvest, with 60% of reserve wines. The result is a light and delicately fruity flavored cuvee with aromatic and spicy Pinot Meunier and redcurrant aromas intertwined with chalky expressions and notes of ripe pears and yeast. Round and fresh on the palate this is a light, finessed, elegant, very delicate and harmoniously fruity Brut with a stunningly intense, persistent, well-structured and purely salty finish. Very stimulating as a soloist, aperitif or with lighter dishes. Tasted from lot L 419A701 42836 in November 2018. Dec 2018, www.robertparker.com

Score: 90-/100Stephan Reinhardt

The NV Brut Reserve is an attractive, easygoing wine with good up-front fruit and an accessible personality. Flowers, dried pears and spices are some of notes that linger on the finish. This is Lot 23813206659A. Disgorged February 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. Wine Advocate.November, 2011

At just 17 years of age he fled Hungary during the Communist Revolution of 1956. ...

Brunello di Montalcino: F+R report
Part of what we do at FINE+RARE is try, wherever possible, to get as close to source as we can. Ideally we deal direct with the winemakers themselves.  Following the success of the brilliant 2010 vintage, our buying team have just returned from Montalcino.  Jessica Bryans recounts the trip: It is hard to believe that Brunello is such a new ...

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tasting
62 samples of 2010 Brunello di Montalcino In late February, just after the Benvenuti Brunello tastings in Montalcino, we held what was probably the most comprehensive tasting of 2010 Brunello di Montalcino in the UK.  These wines have proved immensely popular since their release and we had a golden chance to see what the fuss is all about. In ...

Soldera: The Wine Icon of Brunello di Montalcino
Origins… Gianfranco Soldera first and foremost was a wine lover. A man who in his youth would travel around Italy visiting his favourite wineries, most notably in Barolo. He was fascinated with Nebbiolo. In his mid-thirties he decided he would make his own wine and bought the neglected Case Basse property in 1972. This Tuscan winemaking enterprise was a bit of a compromise for ...
