Based in the appellation of Pauillac, Batailley was classified as a fifth growth in the 1855 classification. The land that Batailley now calls home has a rich and somewhat bloody history: in 1452, in the closing chapter of the Hundred Years’ War, this was the scene of a battle from which the estate now takes its name. The French took back fellow Pauillac estate Château Latour from the English, marking a turning point in the conflict.
