This is wonderfully fresh, not in fact that rich but beautifully fragrant and complex wine. In the second tasting, a fresh ginger aspect is more evident. I can really see the improvement in this estate since the Cathiard's winemaking team have come on board, bringing acidity, tension and purity. 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. Apr 2017, www.decanter.com, Drink: 2022-2040
Orchard fruit, lemon confit and white flowers are all nicely lifted in the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne. Gracious and airy in style, as it usually is, the 2016 Bastor is one of the more delicate Sauternes readers will come across in 2016. Apr 2017, www.vinous.com
Rather forward, with a fruity mix of tinned pineapple, glazed peach and apricot juice notes. Open-knit feel through the finish. Apr 2017, James Molesworth, www.winespectator.com
Pale lemon colored, the 2016 Bastor-Lamontagne features beeswax and fungi notions on the nose with a core of peach preserves and candied orange peel plus a waft of mango. The palate gives plenty of unctuous exotic fruit and earthy sparks with a racy backbone and great length. Nov 2018, www.robertparker.com
An easy sweet wine with dried-apple and honey character. Medium body and a fresh finish. Aperitif style. Apr 17, www.jamessuckling.com
The 2016 Château Bastor-Lamontagne felt a little simplistic on the nose and lacked sufficient botrytis compared to other samples. The palate is balanced with a viscous opening, nicely judged acidity with a touch of spice, although I would be seeking a little more weight and botrytis towards the finish. RS 100 g/l, TA 3.84 g/l. Light, waxy nose. Then broad and slightly candified. A little simple with the acid sticking out a bit at the moment. Relatively light. Bit of a fast fade. Apr 2017, www.jancisrobinson.com, Drink: 2020-2025
