Critic Notes

This wine delivers the goods. The 2013 Barolo Arborina is a complete and centered wine that opens to an enchanting blast of exuberant fruit. The bouquet is redolent of dark cherry and blackberry, and those aromas are thick enough to balance out the wine's savory and oak-driven side. These elements come together with seamless integration. The wine offers an important sense of textural balance as well. It feels thick, but not heavy. It shows richness but is also buoyant and bright at the same time. This is an excellent wine from the unstoppable force that is Elio Altare. Jun 2017, www.robertparker.com

Score: 96-/100Monica Larner

Sweet floral notes and bright red stone fruits are nicely delineated in the 2013 Barolo Arborina. Perfumed and light on its feet, the 2013 possesses mid-weight structure and enough depth to drink well for at least a number of years. At this stage, the Arborina is a bit subdued and medium in body. The 2013 saw a short maceration of just 86 hours. Feb 2017, www.vinous.com, Drink: 2019-2033

The FINE+RARE 'Four Decades of Barolo' Dinner
Last week fourteen of FINE+RARE’s customers joined us for a very special dinner at Alyn Williams. The theme: Four Decades of Barolo. We’ve been making as much noise as possible about this region of late, and much of this noise has been focussed on the recently released, and quite brilliant, 2010 vintage.  We thought we’d open a few bottles with some ...

2011 Barolo: "Intrigante"
Barolo Vineyard Following a vintage like 2010 is not easy.  2010 Barolos are not only of great quality, they were released to a market primed to buy something new, a market disillusioned with Bordeaux, a market looking for quality, value and character.  What the wines of Piedmont offered, and continue to offer is simple: the opportunity to buy, own ...

The FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010
Last week we held one of the most exciting tastings we can remember at our offices: the FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010. Just over 90 wines from Barolo's finest: from the established names to the young blood, all from what is a clearly excellent 2010 vintage. The growers included F+R favourites Brezza, Ceretto, Cogno, Grimaldi and Oberto; the established stars of ...

Travelling up and down the rolling hills of Barolo, it is impossible to ignore the abundance of culinary delights growing all around you. From vineyards and hazelnut trees, to little patches of woodland famed for their truffles... As we travel through the region, our guide Giacomo points out a spot good for white truffles, another more renowned for the black variety. And he should ...

Brezza Tasting: Barolo Sarmassa Vertical 2003-2010
We have seen a surge of interest in Barolo over the past year and it is one of the markets that we are focussing on. In terms of quality and value for money, Barolo remains one of the few regions that is 'undiscovered': one can find exceptional quality in the region and we believe that now is the time to ...
