Critic Notes

2002 Barolo Le Vigne—Dark red. The 2002 vintage gave Sandrone very little to work with, as the Vignane and Merli vineyards fell prey to hail damage. In 2002 Le Vigne contains fruit from just the Ceretta and Conterni vineyards, and in the context of the vintage the 2002 Barolo Le Vigne is an excellent effort. It shows notes of toasted oak, herbs and macerated cherry fruit with modest depth and complexity, yet with good overall balance. The evolving color as well as the appearance of secondary aromas and flavors suggests this wine is on a relatively fast path of maturity. It should be at its best between 2007-2012. 88/drink after 2006, 03/06 Antonio Galloni, In the Cellar # G7 May 2006

2011 Barolo: "Intrigante"
Barolo Vineyard Following a vintage like 2010 is not easy.  2010 Barolos are not only of great quality, they were released to a market primed to buy something new, a market disillusioned with Bordeaux, a market looking for quality, value and character.  What the wines of Piedmont offered, and continue to offer is simple: the opportunity to buy, own ...

The Sub-Regions of Barolo and their very different flavour profiles
Why is it important? Many consumers are unaware of the different profiles and can be quite surprised by the Barolo in their glass tasting very different to the one they ...

The growers included F+R favourites Brezza, Ceretto, Cogno, Grimaldi and Oberto; the established stars of ...

The FINE+RARE 'Four Decades of Barolo' Dinner
Last week fourteen of FINE+RARE’s customers joined us for a very special dinner at Alyn Williams. The theme: Four Decades of Barolo. We’ve been making as much noise as possible about this region of late, and much of this noise has been focussed on the recently released, and quite brilliant, 2010 vintage.  We thought we’d open a few bottles with some ...
