The 2007 Barolo Case Nere could easily be mistaken for a Barolo from Serralunga. It is a huge, hulking wine packed with dark plums, wild cherries, smoke, underbrush, spices and French oak. The Case Nere turns a bit more elegant on the mid-palate yet remains a fairly large-scaled, extroverted wine best suited to rich, hearty foods. The tannins are surprisingly soft for such a big, young Barolo, and the Case Nere can be enjoyed upon release, especially with some air. A streak of graphite and minerals adds freshness on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. Feb 2011, www.robertparker.com

2011 Barolo: "Intrigante"
Barolo Vineyard Following a vintage like 2010 is not easy.  2010 Barolos are not only of great quality, they were released to a market primed to buy something new, a market disillusioned with Bordeaux, a market looking for quality, value and character.  What the wines of Piedmont offered, and continue to offer is simple: the opportunity to buy, own ...

Brezza Tasting: Barolo Sarmassa Vertical 2003-2010
We have seen a surge of interest in Barolo over the past year and it is one of the markets that we are focussing on. In terms of quality and value for money, Barolo remains one of the few regions that is 'undiscovered': one can find exceptional quality in the region and we believe that now is the time to ...

Castello di Ama - Leading the Renaissance of Chianti Classico
This week we were fortunate enough to source a selection of rare, aged parcels of single-vineyard Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, direct from the cellars of Castello di Ama. This winery has been a leading light in the renaissance of the Chianti Classico region and should be firmly on everyone’s fine wine radar. Castello di Ama is a must-have for anyone seeking ...

The FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010
Last week we held one of the most exciting tastings we can remember at our offices: the FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010. Just over 90 wines from Barolo's finest: from the established names to the young blood, all from what is a clearly excellent 2010 vintage. The growers included F+R favourites Brezza, Ceretto, Cogno, Grimaldi and Oberto; the established stars of ...
