Critic Notes

The 2008 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is stunningly beautiful. It, too, is quite subtle and understated. The 2008 is a gorgeous, mid-weight wine laced with sweet red cherries, flowers, spices, mint and minerals. This is a decidedly feminine, gracious Cannubi Boschis that impresses for its elegance, class and finesse. Sweet floral notes add brightness on the Pinot-like, vibrant finish. The wine keeps getting better and better in the glass. This, too, is a dazzling effort. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028. Apr 2012, www.robertparker.com

2011 Barolo: "Intrigante"
Barolo Vineyard Following a vintage like 2010 is not easy.  2010 Barolos are not only of great quality, they were released to a market primed to buy something new, a market disillusioned with Bordeaux, a market looking for quality, value and character.  What the wines of Piedmont offered, and continue to offer is simple: the opportunity to buy, own ...

The FINE+RARE 'Four Decades of Barolo' Dinner
Last week fourteen of FINE+RARE’s customers joined us for a very special dinner at Alyn Williams. The theme: Four Decades of Barolo. We’ve been making as much noise as possible about this region of late, and much of this noise has been focussed on the recently released, and quite brilliant, 2010 vintage.  We thought we’d open a few bottles with some ...

The Sub-Regions of Barolo and their very different flavour profiles
Why is it important? Understanding the sub regions of Barolo is really worth some investigation because generally speaking each of the communes have a distinct flavour profile clearly differentiating its terroir from its neighbours. Many consumers are unaware of the different profiles and can be quite surprised by the Barolo in their glass tasting very different to the one they ...

The FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010
Last week we held one of the most exciting tastings we can remember at our offices: the FINE+RARE Barolo Anteprima 2010. Just over 90 wines from Barolo's finest: from the established names to the young blood, all from what is a clearly excellent 2010 vintage. The growers included F+R favourites Brezza, Ceretto, Cogno, Grimaldi and Oberto; the established stars of ...

Brezza Tasting: Barolo Sarmassa Vertical 2003-2010
We have seen a surge of interest in Barolo over the past year and it is one of the markets that we are focussing on. In terms of quality and value for money, Barolo remains one of the few regions that is 'undiscovered': one can find exceptional quality in the region and we believe that now is the time to ...
