This has solid flesh, with plum and cherry compote notes framed by a lightly taut plum skin edge. There's good spice through the finish. Well-extracted but not overdone. James Molesworth, WineSpectator.com

Light ruby in color, with earth, floral, anise and black cherry scents, this fresh, medium bodied St. Emilion ends with bright, black raspberries. From a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 13.5% alcohol. Barde Haut remains one of the better Bordeaux value wines. TheWineCellarInsider.com

A beautiful effort from Helene Garcin, the 2011 Barde-Haut is dominated by Merlot blended with Cabernet Franc. It boasts an impressively saturated plum/purple color as well as an attractive bouquet of creme de cassis, sweet cherries and bluer, mountain-like fruit. With good crunchiness, vibrant acidity, a sweet core of red and black fruits and medium body, this sleeper of the vintage should drink well for a decade or more. Normally this is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Apr 2014, www.robertparker.com
