This estate continues to make a brilliant, ripe, modern, yet still grounded style of Saint-Emilion, and I loved the 2020 Château Badette. Lots of pure cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and classy oak emerges from the glass, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with wonderful purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s a smoking good wine that will keep for two decades.

Tight and linear with beautifully curated tannins that spread across the palate. Medium body. Fine-textured.

The 2020 Badette is a heady, explosive Saint-Émilion. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, licorice, cloves and tobacco hit the palate. This is a decidedly boisterous style. The new oak needs to integrate, but should not be a problem. Readers should expect an unctuous, flamboyant style. Tasted two times.

The 2020 Badette a property owned by Belgian Marc Vandenbogaerde, offers plenty of intense brambly red berry fruit on the nose laced with rose petal and violet - lots of chutzpah here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit, slightly powdery tannins with good depth and harmony. Gentle grip on the finish with fine persistence, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru has a lot of potential and well worth seeking out.

The 2020 Badette is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, aging for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. The alcohol is 15%. Opaque purple-black colored, the 2020 Badette erupts from the glass with bombastic notes of baked blackberries, plum preserves and kirsch, followed by hints of cedar chest, Chinese five spice, tar and licorice, plus a touch of eucalyptus. The full-bodied palate is full-on rich and decadent, featuring layers of black fruit preserves and exotic spices with a firm, grainy texture and plenty of freshness to support, finishing long and opulent.
