Critic Notes

The 2008 Crimson Pinot Noir has a cranberry and redcurrant-scented nose with good definition, later with floral scents developing in the glass. It shows impressive precision for an entry-level wine. The palate is medium-bodied, a slight hardness on the entry, crunchy cranberry and pomegranate fruit, the finish leafy finish and just lacking a little weight. Drink now-2012. Beyond Burgundy: Europe's Other Fine Wine Region for Pinot Noir
F+R have sourced a parcel of some of the finest Pinot Noirs coming out of Germany, a diverse region that is today arguably producing the most exciting Pinot Noirs in Europe, outside of Burgundy. Top examples are world class and offer both similarities and important differences to the Cote d’Or. We arranged a tasting of some of the ...

Rangen de Thann Grand Cru
Following our masterclass with Olivier Humbrecht MW and tasting through his extraordinary collection, we haven't been able to forget the wines from the Grand Cru vineyard of Rangen de Thann. Decanter’s Andrew Jefford describes the Rangen vineyard as "the ...

While the category deserves nothing less, this increased popularity continues to deplete the remaining stock from Japan's largest and most popular producers. ...

Focus on the Northern Rhone
As the 2014 En Primeur campaign has now come to a close, our focus at FINE+RARE has shifted to the Northern Rhône. An as yet undiscovered region for many, this small vineyard area (just 5% of the entire Rhône Valley’s overall output) undoubtedly produces some of the greatest and most singular wines found anywhere on the fine wine landscape. For ...

A Taste of The Northern Rhone
The northern and southern Rhone, from a vinous point of view, are essentially two quite different regions with a shared name. Some weeks back we covered the southern Rhone in a previous workshop, via its King: Chateauneuf du Pape.  We ended last week with a workshop on the north. This 40-mile stretch of steep, sloped granite hillsides is one of ...
