Critic Notes

The 2015 Ampelia is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc from the same team at Grand-Corbin Despagne. This has a lovely nose, very pure and generous, well defined with floral-tinged blackberry, raspberry and cold stony scents. The palate is well balanced with fine, grainy tannin, a little foursquare on the entry, but plenty of fruit backs this up. Plenty of freshness with a pencil lead finish, this should be a delicious Cote de Castillon once bottled. Apr 2016, www.robertparker.com

Despagne property. Very dark. Very rich. Almost forced! Big and bold. Lots concentrated into this rather dramatic wine. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2022-2029

The 2015 Ampélia is a juicy, attractive wine that will drink well upon release. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, rose petal and mint give the 2015 much of its up-front appeal. I would prefer to drink the 2015 on the young side, while the fruit retains its juiciness. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com
