Average Score 90.5

Blackberry, dark-cherry and spice aromas follow through to a full-bodied, rich and layered palate. Muscular wine for the appellation. Mar 2017,
The 2016 Chateau Alcee is a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc that is matured in 50% new oak. The nose offers upfront red berry fruit with mulberry and black truffle aromas, quite powerful although missing the delineation of the 2015 last year. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry and fine tannin; midway through this Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux, the class and sophistication shows through, especially with that dash of white pepper that lingers on the aftertaste. It will require three or four years in bottle to fully meld together, but this is a fine contribution to the vintage. Apr 2017,
The 2016 Alcée, Nicolas Thienpont's Côte de Castillon, is a powerhouse. A blast of intense red plum, tobacco, smoke and iron, backed by a serious spine of tannin, makes a strong first impression. Ripe, opulent and succulent to the core, with good underlying structure, the 2016 is going to need a bit of time to settle down. Even so, it is quite expressive today. Apr 2017,
This has a shot of toast, with good back cherry paste and plum compote notes at the core. Apr 2017, James Molesworth,
Very dark. Sweet start and rather cheesy/camembert nose. Dramatic but not gracious. Drying end. Apr 2017,, Drink: 2022-2028
