The vineyards consist of a single block of 12 hectares, a third of which lies across the official Saint-Émilion border. The vineyard is surrounded by some iconic neighbours with Cheval Blanc to the south, Pétrus and Vieux Château Certan to its north and sharing an extensive border with Château L'Évangile. The terroir is far from uniform with 60% of the vines planted on the famous blue clay of Pomerol, with more stony parcels nearing Vieux Château Certan as well as a proportion of vines situated on sandy soils rich in crasse de fer (iron rich clay).
