Domaine Saint-Préfert is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s leading names, known for crafting some of the region’s most elegant wines.
The estate is relatively new by Châteauneuf standards, established in 1930 by the Serre family. It is, however, since Isabel Ferrando arrived in 2002 that the estate’s star has risen. A former banker who learnt to make wine at Domain Raspail-Ay in Gigondas and with the legendary Henri Bonneau, she purchased the estate in 2002.
She has since expanded the domaine, purchasing a plot of old-vine Grenache that is used for her Colombis cuvée. Winemaking here is all traditional, the vines old (averaging 60 years across the estate) and the resulting quality exceptional. The wines are compared to those of Rayas and Bonneau – and deservedly so.
