With 97 points from James Halliday Vasse Felix’s 2015 Heytesbury Chardonnay is “one of the icons of Margaret River” and offers “perfect harmony and balance.”
Ray Jordan, an Australian wine writer with 40 years’ experience, awarded this 98 points and named it his White Wine of the Year in The West Australian Wine Guide, saying: “The Chardonnays at Vasse Felix have been on the up for a number of years but it is hard to remember a better one. Such intensity, such power and yet such elegance and poise.”
Wine Companion ranks this latest vintage 9 out of 10, the highest rating awarded for Margaret River whites. Vasse Felix said of 2015 that the “fruit quality is excellent, the only disappointment was yields being down.” Therefore, anybody looking to secure this iconic wine should act quickly.
Vasse Felix was the first winery to be built in Margaret River and according to James Halliday its vineyards are “scrupulously managed, quality the sole driver.” It will be celebrating 50 years in 2017 and there top white – aged for nine months in French oak (57% new) and winner of a gold medal at the Margaret River Wine Show 2016 – will be a perfect way to celebrate that milestone…
