We are delighted to offer a selection of wines from Terroir al Limit, the spectacular Priorat producer bringing a Burgundian concept of terroir and growths to Northern Spain. With scores of up to 98 points from the Wine Advocate and produced in extremely limited quantities, the chance to own these cult wines is not to be missed…

Terroir al Limit was established in 2001 by Eben Sadie (of Swartland fame) and Dominik Huber, with the ambition of proving that Priorat has more to offer than over-extraction and fashionable international grape varieties. They have revived traditional Priorat style, native grapes and treasured old vines. Sixteen years later, their gamble has paid off: Terroir al Limits’ wines are now cited as being some of the most exciting in Priorat.

As the name suggests, Terroir al Limit’s philosophy is centred around the land and the belief that the villages of Priorat are as nuanced as those of Burgundy. According to Dominik, they are trying to establish the Domaine Romanée-Conti of Spain. The approach certainly seems to be working: Terroir al Limits’ cuvées are high-end, light, gastronomic wines which prize purity above all else.

In line with this Burgundian approach, Terroir al Limit believes that their wines can be clearly classified at different crus. With a staggering 98 points apiece from Luis Gutierrez, Les Tosses and Les Manyes are unmistakeably the two grands crus. James Suckling named the 2014 Les Tosses his Spanish Wine of the Year in 2016, and called it an achievement in winemaking, while Luis Gutierrez of the Wine Advocate wrote I don’t remember tannins as elegant as these in a Cariñena before. The 2014 Manyes was similarly well-received by Gutierrez, who called it a tour de force Garnacha, adding that while many wineries experienced a better vintage in 2013 than 2014, that was not the case for this wine: “2014 was the big surprise, with a combination of depth, perfume, subtleness and power difficult to achieve”.

Aside from these Grand Crus, we also have a number of Terroir Al Limit’s other wines to offer, from the Premier Cru level Les Dits del Terra and Arbossar to the Villages Torroja. We also have the “spectacular” 2014 Pedra de Guix, a dry white wine that is a unique blend of Garnacha, Macabeo and Pedro Ximenez. Luis Gutierrez awarded it 94 points and called it “really tasty, balanced and serious”, adding that Huber himself believes it to be the longest lived of the winery.
