According to Robert Parker: Tenuta di Trinoro produces some of the most exciting wines being made anywhere.” That was certainly true in 2009. With 99 points, Trinoro 2009 is Wine Advocate’s highest-scoring Italian wine of the vintage, outscoring the great names of Masseto, Solaia, Sassicaia, Gaja, Voerzio and Giacomo Conterno by at least two points. The critics’ reviews speak for themselves:

“Seamless” – Jancis Robinson
“Full-throttle personality” – Antonio Galloni
“Stunning wine” – Monica Larner

A truly unique wine, only 700 cases were made of this Bordeaux-inspired red that utilises low yielding vines (cuttings taken from the likes of Vieux Château Certan) planted at unusually high density on poor soils in what Robert Parker calls “the middle of nowhere”.

Winemaker Andrea Franchetti borrows Bordeaux nomenclature to describe his terroir as “Graves” and “Côtes”. Couple that with this wine's huge score in 2009 and its blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, and it is maybe best compared alongside the vastly more expensive Mouton-Rothschild, Château Margaux, Cheval Blanc and Lafleur, which all achieved the same score in Wine Advocate for 2009, or Le Pin, Pétrus, Latour or Haut-Brion that only beat it by a single point.

This Super-Tuscan masterpiece is just entering its drinking window and is sure to offer immense pleasure for anyone lucky enough to find a case…
