The newly-released 2014 Seña is a wonderful wine. Awarding it 97 points, James Suckling – who has previously described Seña as having “the structure of a first growth Bordeaux” and being “for now simply unbeatable in Chile” – urges readers to give the wine “three to four years to come together”, but describes it as “already a beauty”.

Hailing from a certified biodynamic vineyard in the valley beneath the towering Mount Aconcagua, the Seña is a Bordeaux-blend with a Chilean twist by way of a splash of Carmenère. In 2014 frosts reduced yields but according to Jancis Robinson: “what remained made very good quality wine, showing plenty of concentration and complexity.” Judging by James Suckling’s review this is obviously true for Seña 2014, but lower volumes will mean fierce demand.

Seña started out as a collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick and Napa’s iconic Robert Mondavi, but is now solely owned by Errazuriz. In recent years it has achieved enormous success, including the 2001 vintage beating wines from Château Margaux, Lafite-Rothschild and Latour in a blind tasting and the 2013 achieving the highest ever score for a Chilean wine from a prominent international critic. This run of accomplishment looks certainly set to continue with this latest release.
