Salvioni’s 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is well worth a look from any fan of Italian wine. This is really quite special as it is crafted by one of Brunello’s finest producers and they did not make Brunello in 2014, instead declassifying everything into this Rosso. The result is a superb ‘Baby-Brunello’ available at a fraction of the price of Salvioni’s usual first wine.

Antonio Galloni gives an idea of the pedigree on show from Salvioni, “their wines embody the essence of what makes artisan Brunello so special. Totally handmade, from the vineyard to the cellar and into the bottle.” This care is what makes Salvioni’s one of the most sought-after and expensive of all Brunello’s and is just as evident in the Rosso – making this 2014 an utter bargain.

Since tasting it, we’ve been scouring our network to find as much as possible – a grand total of just 19 cases – a bit of an indication that those in the know are snapping this up across Europe. This is highly recommended and not to be missed while still available.
