Barbaresco in Northern Italy had a superb vintage in 2013. A long summer and record late harvest combined to create wines with the quality of the benchmark 2010s, but with a richness and opulence that will makes them absolutely sensational from the word go. Some great wines will emerge, yet it is unlikely that any will match that of the Produttori del Barbaresco for sheer value: this may be one of the buys of the year.
We haven’t had the chance to sample this yet but given the quality of the Produttori – previously described by Antonio Galloni as “one of the world’s top co-operatives” and the comments from both from him and Monica Larner below, it’s going to be something special:
“Two thousand thirteen, on the other hand, is shaping up to be an epic vintage of classic proportions and superb pedigree… The 2013s remind me of the 2010s, but with more inner sweetness and mid-palate richness” – Galloni (Dec 2015)
“The 2013 vintage is shaping up to be a classic year” – Monica Larner (June 2016)
This therefore looks like a superb showing from one of our favourite value producers and is worth very serious consideration.
