Writing for Jancis Robinson, German wine expert Michael Schmidt says: “Biodynamic pioneer Peter Jacob Kühn is hailed by the German wine media as the seventh wonder of the Rheingau.” He also says that the estate has demonstrated “steady improvement to join the very elite of the region.” So his wines from 2015 -  a year that some critics are calling the vintage of the century - looks set to launch this little-known estate out from being ‘under-the-radar’…

Wine Advocate’s high scores (94-96 points) released in October will surely seal that. Stephan Reinhardt announced that you can hardly find many wines with more vitality and vibrancy than the 2015 Rieslings from Peter Jakob Kühn… The sweet Prädikatsweine are again extremely clear, piquant and precise, although they do not taste as sweet as most of their peers.”

Stephan Reinhardt describes these wines as being “perfectly balanced” and “really terrific”, with “stimulating purity”, highlighting the potentially huge longevity of each one running into three or more decades.

Winemaker Peter Jakob Kühn says this vintage really offered the best of both worlds: “The curious thing is that 2015 is a vintage from a warm year, but has all of the attributes of a cool vintage: precision, a lighter body combined with a pronounced acidity, and a clear expression of Riesling."

Gault Millau crowned Peter Jakob Kühn as Germany’s Winemaker of the Year 2016 and Falstaff awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award this year too. Vinous’ David Schildknecht has previously described Peter Jacob Kühn‘s sweet wines as “strikingly successful” and with limited availability these 2015s will not hang around…
