We are delighted to offer Marqués de Murrieta’s first rosé in over a decade: Primer Rosé 2015. Effectively this is Castillo Ygay Rosé, as the 100% Mazuelo grapes used to make it come from the old vines in the La Plana vineyard, which until 2015 were used exclusively for the production of the legendary Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial.
Made in tiny quantities, FINE+RARE have secured 30 beautifully-packaged three-bottle boxes of this new, experimental and unique Rioja Alta rosé.
Aged on the lees for 40 days and eschewing the heavy extraction common to many Spanish rosés, it has a decidedly delicate Provençal feel to it, but with the characteristic complexity, depth and texture one would expect from the producers of Castillo Ygay.
Although yet to be scored by the critics, Primer Rosé’s debut vintage is one for which Jancis Robinson said that the vineyards of Rioja “were showing especially high quality” and the wines display “powerful concentration and richness”.
