Boasting big new scores from both Robert Parker and James Suckling, the 2009 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Louis Latour has hit a lovely place in its development.
Suckling stated “I love the 2009 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne” while Parker admitted to being “super-impressed”. At 96 points he notably places it up with some of the best white Burgundies of the last couple of decades, including Domaine Leflaive’s ‘96 Chevalier Montrachet and Coche Dury’s ‘01 Corton Charlemange to name just two.
Parker has long been a fan of Corton Charlemagne as a whole, describing it in his 1990 guide to Burgundy as “the greatest white Burgundy after Le Montrachet and Chevalier Montrachet”. Combine this phenomenal terroir with an excellent vintage and a few years of maturity and, as the recent tasting notes attest, you have something very special. For those therefore wanting top-notch Grand Cru Burgundy without breaking the bank or indeed extended cellaring, this is a very compelling option.
