Glaetzer’s Amon-Ra Shiraz is always one of the most consistently exceptional wines made in Australia. This vintage has received 96+ points from Wine Advocate, the publication’s second highest score for an Australian wine from 2014. Lisa Perrotti-Brown describes it asa great contender for wine of the vintage! And in light of the wine’s ability to age and propensity to be up-scored when re-tasted, that is a very strong possibility.

Rated as “Outstanding” by Langton’s Classification; the benchmark for Australian fine wine. Langton’s says of the Amon-Ra Shiraz: “It’s deeply concentrated, rich and voluminous with chocolaty tannins and plenty of length. Power, structure and generosity are hallmarks of the style.” That deep concentration comes from low-yielding 50 to 130-year old vines that produce the incredible fruit that go into this in-demand wine.

It clearly impressed critic Josh Raynolds, who said this “big boy” has “an explosively perfumed bouquet” and awarded it 94 points, the highest score for an Australian 2014 on Vinous at time of writing.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown said of the hot and low-yielding 2014 vintage in Barossa: “There are some excellent, ripe, intense wines that are right up there with the 2012s.” Which puts this up alongside Glaetzer’s Amon-Ra 2012 (now sold out), which was awarded 97+ points; the second highest-ever score for this wine.

However, Ben Glaetzer warns that the vintage “resulted in spectacular wines albeit in short supply.” So fans of the very best of New World winemaking will want to snap this up while availability lasts...
