Fontodi of Tuscany are a producer to keep firmly on the radar after a series of excellent vintages has made them the go-to producer for those who love Tuscan reds.
The stunning 2013s will be no exception to this rule and, with 94 points, the Chianti Classico 2013 is the stand-out buy for those seeking absolute superstar value. Available at less than £14 a bottle in bond, it is one of the Tuscans buys of the year.
Fontodi’s flagship wines, Flaccianello and Vigna del Sorbo, are always in the top handful of reds made anywhere in Italy. They are world-class wines, have a deservingly fanatical global following and are always of outstanding quality. As such, for those seeking something a bit more accessible, but still with the Fontodi magic, the Chianti Classico is a great alternative.
James Suckling calls the 2013 “Altogether delicious”, a “dense and velvety” 94 pointer that will drink well now, or indeed hold for those who like their Tuscans with a bit of age.
