The greatest expression of Riesling in the world arguably comes from Mosel’s most famous Grand Cru site “Scharzhofberger”. This visually stunning wall of vines, that rises up 300 metres from the Saar and whose grey slate soils typify the Mosel signature style, produces some of the most cerebral, tense, terroir-driven Riesling you are likely to taste anywhere in the world.

FINE+RARE is delighted to offer a selection of vintages from this fantastic site, coming from one of the most exciting growers in the region - von Hövel.

Von Hövel is a family owned estate in operation since 1803. The youngest generation is winemaker Max von Kunow who has been making waves in the region, garnering praise from critics all over the world, including Stephen Reinhardt - Wine Advocate and the specialist Mosel Fine Wine Review, which described the incredible 2017s as "possibly the finest vintage ever at the venerable estate".

The von Hövel Riesling Collection Case 12x75cl gives you a great insight into the estate’s top vineyards. It includes 3 bottles each of the 2016 and 2017 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett, as well as three bottles each of the 2016 and 2014 from their monopole vineyard "Hütte Oberemmel" - which regularly scores as well as their Scharzhofberger.

Von Hövel 2016 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett

93 points – Stephen Reinhardt - Wine Advocate

“The 2016 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett offers a lovely, aromatic white stone fruit aroma that is intermixed with floral and slatey notes. Racy-piquant and very salty, this is a pure and refreshing Scharzhofberger with lush, stimulating fruit and minerality in the finish. This is a gorgeous Riesling to be served with many spicy dishes.”

Von Hövel 2017 Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett

94 points – Mosel Fine Wine Review

“White peach, white flowers, mint and plenty of chalky minerals, blended into elements of smoky slate to perfection. The wine is racy but also delivers a delicately smoothing feel of creamy grapefruit on the palate. While it does have the presence of a light Spätlese, the wine remains light-footed and completely elegant right into the apricot blossom infused finish and leaves one with a superbly airy, delicately fruity and mineral feel in the after-taste.”

Von Hövel 2014 Oberemmeler Hütte Riesling Kabinett Vollmondwein

93 points – Stephen Reinhardt - Wine Advocate

“Picked and filtered in full moon nights, the 2014 Hütte Riesling Kabinett Vollmondwein AP #12 displays a clear and pure bouquet with rather earthy and vegetal than fruity flavors and indicates a great purity. Round and piquant on the palate, with an enormously stimulating salinity, this is a full-bodied and complex Kabinett of great complexity and length. Folks, this is great Riesling in its purest and lightest expression. Bottled with 9% alcohol and a perfect rest of sweetness.”

Von Hövel 2016 Oberemmeler Hütte Riesling Spätlese Feinherb

94 points – Stephen Reinhardt - Wine Advocate

“The 2016 Hütte Riesling Spätlese Feinherb has a clear and floral/vegetal bouquet with fine and flinty slate notes. Piquant and salty on the palate, this is a gorgeously filigreed and finessed Hütte Riesling that shows a mouthwatering and extremely stimulating finish. Fabulous and crunchy!”
