In recent weeks FINE+RARE has witnessed considerable market interest in highly-rated, lower-priced Bordeaux 2015 En Primeur. Wines like Tour St Christophe 2015 – one of the highest rated sub-£200 per case wines of the vintage – have continued to sell long after the campaign drew to a close.
So FINE+RARE is excited to have uncovered another Bordeaux 2015 with a huge price-to-point ratio and are proud to offer exclusively in the UK: Durand-Laplagne Les Terres Rouges 2015 at just £100 per case of 12 in bond, with 91-93 points from Neal Martin.
Neal Martin said during the En Primeur campaign that “For those on a budget, the satellite appellations on the Right Bank provide a treasure trove of riches,” highlighting that he had “found some gems in Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion… which should be friendly to your wallet.”
One of those wines from Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion was Château Durand-Laplagne’s Les Terres Rouges, which he said has “heaps of personality and it’s going to be a joy once in bottle.” Antonio Galloni agreed describing it as “a powerful, juicy wine endowed with real depth and personality.”
Despite being another first time listing at FINE+RARE, Wine Advocate’s score places this largely unknown wine on a level with the likes of Péby Faugères, Chapelle d’Ausone, Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse, Pavie-Macquin and Bellevue Mondotte, Saint Emilions with market prices between six to fifteen times more expensive, and in some cases already sold out.
Les Terres Rouges 2015 is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, havested from vines with an average age of almost 40 years. 35% of the final blend is aged in oak for 12 months.
At under £9 a bottle in bond and shipping expected in summer 2017, this is one of the "quite marvellous Merlot-based wines" that excited Neal Martin so much in this vintage. It offers remarkable value to drink while the top wines in your collection mature...
