Siro Pacenti’s Brunello di Montalcino is a wine capable of utter perfection having achieved a flawless 100 points for the monumental 2010 vintage. A more than worthy follow up, the 2012 is now available at a fraction of the price of its iconic predecessor.
Giancarlo Pacenti himself makes wines in a modern style, using French oak, that will drink perfectly well young and age beautifully in the manner of all great Brunello. In the best vintages they are a superb expression of the best that this famous Tuscan region has to offer. Antonio Galloni has recently lavished praised on Giancarlo, noting him “by far the leading exponent of the modern school of Brunello di Montalcino. No other producer has succeeded in crafting wines of this much textural beauty and refinement.”
The 2010 has long sold through (we have just one case just placed on sale from a private reservist client) and with the 2012 at half of the price and from a vintage that has much in common “with the legendary 2010 vintage”, this looks like an outstanding addition to the cellar.
