The 2015 vintage was utterly spectacular for the wines of France. Brilliant efforts are emerging from across the regions; Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone and while some may come close, perhaps none will offer better value than the best from Morgon. Marcel Lapierre’s is always superb and in a year of this quality very much the one to buy.
The Region’s Finest Ever Vintage: We were recently in Burgundy and the talk from winemaking circles is that 2015 might be the finest in Beaujolais history, eclipsing even the 2009. 2015 is the best vintage for Beaujolais since 2009 and this means a wine like the Lapierre Morgon will be very special indeed. Tasted blind you’d say it was very good Burgundy, easily 1er Cru level and complete with a complexity and depth that makes a mockery of its price-tag.
“Just great wines that are a joy to drink” (Neal Martin): Neal Martin is a fan, calling this “superb” Morgon a joy to drink and in advising of giving a drinking window of up to 2038, gives a clear indication of the quality in the bottle. In essence, to buy a Burgundian-style red that will develop and mature like this, you’ll ordinarily need to spend an awful lot more than £20 a bottle IB. It is this incredible bang-for-buck that makes the Lapierre Morgon such a strong buy.
Incredible Value - Fill Up The Cellar: For the value this wine offers we recommend buying as much as you can store as this will be beautiful now and only keep getter better.
