A consistent huge seller last summer and increasingly compelling as it ages, the 2012 Rasteau by Xavier Vins is an absolute superstar of a wine. Every inch the baby Chateauneuf du Pape, this is an extraordinary Rhone and offered almost unbelieveable value for money.
Our buyers were wowed by this wine when they discovered it in 2015 and they're not alone: Jeb Dunnuck of the Wine Advocate has awarded an excellent 93 points - a score that makes a mockery of the price tag of just £10 a bottle in bond. It’s brilliant, complex, polished and exuberant and one of the best wines we’ve ever sampled at this price-point.
The quality comes courtesy of winemaker Xavier Vignon’s incredible connections. His sources for the grapes for this Rasteau are clearly magnificent and in combination with a cellar where, to Dunnuck “the winemaking is impeccable”, it makes much more expensive wines look very ordinary indeed.
An unmissable bargain crafted by one of the most skilled and interesting winemakers in the Rhone, this is a very, very strong buy.
