“The 2019 Troplong Mondot is sensational. Rich, vibrant and explosive, the 2019 pulses with energy...”

Today sees a hugely successful wine released from the 2019 vintage, the Premier Grand Cru Classe “B” Chateau Troplong Mondot.

From the 2017 vintage onwards, Chateau Troplong Mondot has completely changed its philosophy in regards to the profile of its wine, opting to pick earlier and extract less, in order to retain tension, elegance and vibrancy in the wine.

For Aymeric de Gironde, president of the estate, the 2019 is confirmation that the radical decisions they made at the estate three years ago were the right ones, producing a wine with high levels of fruit purity and real poise. Asked to compare the vintage he believes it has the delicacy and energy of the 2010 and 2016 but the seductiveness of 2015. The critics also approve the decision, providing some of the highest scores in the appellation.

These days it is Chateau Troplong Mondot, along with Chateau Canon, who is first to pick its grapes. Ripeness comes easy for Troplong Mondot with its hillside vineyard on some of the highest elevation in Saint-Emilion making it the windiest and therefore driest vineyards in the appellation, which speeds up the ripening. With ripeness not an issue, the estate is in the fortunate position to pick fully ripe grapes that still have plenty of vibrancy. The wine certainly has fantastic energy in 2019.

"The 2019 Troplong Mondot is sensational. Rich, vibrant and explosive, the 2019 pulses with energy. Black cherry, violet plum, licorice, lavender and dark spice build in a statuesque Saint-Émilion endowed with tremendous energy and pure power. Troplong Mondot is not as obvious a wine as it was a few years ago, but its grandeur - and more importantly, the grandeur of this site - are evident. Troplong Mondot is a wine that simply can't be denied. The 2019 is aging in 60% new oak and 40% a combination of once-used barrels, foudres and amphora."
