2016 Jim Barry The Armagh

The latest vintage of this iconic Clare Valley Shiraz

“One of the finest releases to date”

Jim Barry is one of the Clare Valley’s most famous names – a pioneer of the region who championed its potential. Today the winery is run by his son Peter and daughter-in-law Sue, who continue to produce some of the region’s best wines.

Inspired by the likes of Wendouree, Henschke’s Hill of Grace and Penfolds Grange, the Barry family set out to produce a truly great Shiraz that could compete with the best. The result was The Armagh, sourced from a single plot of vines planted by Jim in 1968, and first produced in 1985.

The latest vintage of this iconic wine has just been released. The 2016 has been described as “one of the most impressive releases to date” (James Suckling) while Joe Czerwinski of the Wine Advocate declared it his “pick of the recently bottled vintages”.

“Wow. This is a bold, brassy shiraz that carries a wealth of very intense aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums, licorice and sweetly spiced earth. Still so very youthful and primary. The palate is so powerful, so mouth-filling and so, so juicy. This manages to deliver such intensity and composure. Supple, long and deep-set tannins and heroically expressive fruit. Really impressive now, but this will deliver much more over the next two decades. One of the finest releases to date.”
