One of the standout wines highlighted for quality and value in the 2016 Vinous Brunello di Montalcino Report is Tenuta Il Poggione, reaffirming its reputation as “one of the most fairly priced, ageworthy wines on the planet” (Antonio Galloni).
Tenuta Il Poggione is one of the oldest and largest estates in Brunello with 140 hectares of vineyards. Yet despite its size, it has remained one of the region’s most consistent. This is largely due to the meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, the beneficial cooling effect of their close proximity to Mount Amiata and the overall age of the vines within. . Combined, these factors help to keep this large vineyard site in perfect health throughout the growing season.
Prices remain exceptionally reasonable for the quality on offer and in this textbook vintage for the region, Il Poggione seems to be another outstanding buy.
