2019 CHATEAU L'EVANGILE

POMEROL

"Have I tasted a better l'Evangile? Certainly not at this stage, and one of the very few wines in 2019 that I can say without question approaches a perfect score. I don't give 100s at En Primeur but this is off the scale delicious."

98-100 POINTS - JANE ANSON, DECANTER

Today also sees an En Primeur release from one of Pomerol’s oldest estates - Chateau L’EvangileOwned and managed by the team at Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), the property is ideally situated on the Pomerol plateau, neighbouring both Petrus and Chateau Cheval Blanc.

Since DBR purchased the property in 1999 - and with Saskia de Rothschild very much making Evangile in particular "her own" - they have invested huge amounts of money in the vineyards and the winery and have brought meticulous attention to detail to the vinification. Today they are producing one of Pomerol’s most sought-after and finest wines.

The proportion of Cabernet Franc in their final blend (16%), along with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2019 vintage, was tremendously important for the property bringing much needed balance and freshness, while not losing any of that opulence and density brought by the Merlot.

The 2019 is beautifully plush with both depth and intensity on the palate. The 2019 is an opulent, decadent, detailed wine, with fine-knit tannins integrated with great concentration and purity of fruit all backed with a lovely line of freshness. Don’t miss one of Pomerol’s stars in 2019.

"From the very first moment your nose approaches the glass you know something special is happening. Seductive, rich, mouth-filling to the point that you really understand what that means. Just pops out of your mouth, with evident density of luscious blackberry and brambled raspberry fruit but also vertical climb through the palate. Violet notes marry with baked earth, grilled liquorice, tension and seduction. Highest level of Cabernet Franc in the blend in recent history, and first time that they have used all of the Cabernet Franc available in the vineyard - also first time to have this touch of Cabernet Sauvignon since the Rothschilds arrived at the property. Have I tasted a better l'Evangile? Certainly not at this stage, and one of the very few wines in 2019 that I can say without question approaches a perfect score. I don't give 100s at En Primeur but this is off the scale delicious, and I already can't wait to taste it in bottle. 98-100."
