2019 CHATEAU DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU + 2019 LA CROIX DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU

SAINT-JULIEN

“ ... framed by very firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and electric freshness, finishing long and incredibly layered. WOW!”

97-100 POINTS - LISA PERROTTI-BROWN, WINE ADVOCATE

Today sees the release of one of the most hotly anticipated releases of the 2019 EP campaign – the Super Second Growth Saint-Julien - Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 2019.

2019 is a very special year for Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou celebrating its 300th anniversary as well as being touted one of the wines of the vintage from the critics, with four potential perfect 100 point score from Lisa Perrotti-Brown, James Suckling, Jeb Dunnuck and Jeff Leve. Despite the huge praise and expectation of this release, the price is still 17% below the 2018 release price, making it another enticing buy in this extraordinary en primeur campaign.

Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou is known to be consistently one of the best wines in Saint-Julien, confidently matching the First Growths in quality in top vintages. Since 2003 this is in large part thanks to the direction of Bruno Borie who roughly halved the vineyard area with only the best plots, those that surround the chateau, used for the Grand Vin, with the plots further away from the river making the second wine - La Croix de Beaucaillou.

For Bruno Borie the 2019 is like a ballerina - "a wine with incredibly refined movement, with an athletic body and grace". The wine undoubtedly has energy and power but pulls back enough to retain tension and elegance. For Bruno it is the richest wine he has ever produced and with the concentration of tannins, allied with the overall balance of the wine, is set for a very long future ahead. The finish of the wine is certainly special. This is a wine not to miss in 2019.

2019 LA CROIX DUCRU-BEAUCAILLOU

The second wine of Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou has always been a favourite for many, as it consistently manages to retain a plush concentrated, purity of fruit you don't always find at this price point. It is particularly exceptional in 2019 and comes highly recommended. Garnering huge scores from the critics with Neal Martin awarding it a potential 96 points for a wine from one of the finest producers in the appellation is recommendation enough.

"This year the blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. The alcohol weighed in at 14.2%, while the pH is 3.8 and the IPT is 88. It will mature for 18 months in French oak barrels, 100% new. Opaque purple-black in color, the 2019 Ducru-Beaucaillou explodes from the glass with bombastic notes of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and plum preserves plus hints of candied violets, dark chocolate, licorice, wild fungi, crushed rocks and tilled soil with a touch of mossy bark. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is a tightly wound coil poised to spring out with layer upon layer of minerals, rich black fruits and floral notes, framed by very firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and electric freshness, finishing long and incredibly layered. WOW!"

"The 2019 La Croix Ducru Beaucaillou is endowed with a gorgeous, quite sumptuous bouquet loaded with black plum, tobacco, smoke and Earl Grey aromas that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannin, harmonious and velvety in texture, gradually building towards a detailed and mineral-driven finish. Maybe less opulent than the 2018 by comparison, yet a Deuxième Vin full of breeding."

94-96 POINTS - NEAL MARTIN, VINOUS
