The new vintage of Beaucastel’s top cuvée

98-100 points – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

First made in 1989, Hommage à Jacques Perrin is one of the greatest expressions of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Made from a single plot of Château de Beaucastel’s oldest vines, planted in 1909, it’s a remarkable wine – and the 2018 vintage has just been released.

From a particularly warm and ripe year, the wine is unsurprisingly intense, layered and complex. Mainly Mourvèdre, with a sprinkling of Syrah, Grenache and Counoise, rich, dark fruit dominates the nose at the moment, with aromas of earth, florals and garrigue emerging from the glass with air. Bold and structured, yet amazingly fresh, this has decades ahead of it.

With only 6,000 bottles produced and unsurprisingly high scores, we anticipate demand to be extremely high.

“Essence of framboise is joined by layers of garrigue-like complexity, rich, meaty notes and a generous dusting of Asian five spice blend in the stunning 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin. This is full-bodied but incredibly silky, combining great purity, richness and length into a seamless, elegant package that should give immense pleasure for decades to come. Drink 2025-2045.”
