“The symmetry here is spellbinding”
Eric Guido, Vinous
Castiglion del Bosco is an historic estate that has a long history dating back 800 years. It was one of the 25 founding members of the Brunello consortium and has always produced a distinctly unique style of Brunello, based on its remote location situated in the cooler north-west Bosco region of Montalcino.
The wine comes from the Capanna vineyard, an extraordinary ridge vineyard located at 350 to 400 metres’ altitude, surrounded by forests. This part of Montalcino has a particular terroir of clay schist soils that produces a Brunello with real tension, fantastic detail to its tannins and notable precision to its fruit. This cooler site, the estate believes, benefits from 24 months’ ageing in French oak rather than the traditional larger Slovenian oak barrels used in warmer sites of Montalcino. The result is a profoundly distinct interpretation of Brunello in this outstanding vintage.

“The complexity and beauty to this is really something with cherry, walnut, tobacco and cigar-box character. Sweet cherries. It’s full-bodied and deep with super intensity and power. Layered and beautiful. Really refined tannins. Some whole-berry fermentation gives this added character. Goes on for minutes. Try after 2025.”
