Montepeloso is a Tuscan wine estate based in the hills of Suvereto near Bolgheri. The 15 acre estate sits above Tua Rita, on one of the hottest areas in Tuscany, making it easy for the estate to produce rich and concentrated wines from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Colorino and Montelpulciano. The flagship wine – Nardo – is a Sangiovese blend that is only made in tiny 400 case quantities per year. Other notable wines produced at the Montepeloso Estate are Gabbro, made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Eneo, an “anything but ordinary” rosso. Over the last decade, owner and winemaker Fabio Chiarelotto, has worked hard to create wines with elegance and finesse despite the powerful concentration his grapes achieve naturally due to the terroir. In order to do this, he overhauled the vineyards after he purchased the property in 1997; vines were retrained, pruned, regrafted and some replanted. In the cellar, Chiareolotto only works with native yeast and bottles all of his wines unfiltered. The top wines at the Montepeloso Estate are made in tiny quantities and are quickly becoming some of the most elite in Bolgheri. “Montepeloso is one of the emerging stars of the Tuscan coast” -Antonio Galloni
