Bordeaux En Primeur 2017: Week 1 Round-Up

With just under 100 wines released through 'La Place de Bordeaux' this week, the En Primeur campaign kicked-off with the surprise release of Chateau Palmer and its second wine, Alter Ego de Palmer, on Monday morning. Despite the Wine Advocate and Vinous only having released their overview of the vintage, the positive overall response from the trade provided enough confidence in the marketplace for Chateau Palmer to go out early.

With only a handful of other key releases from the Left Bank this week, including Chateaux Labegorce and Haut-Batailley, the initial response has been strong in a currently uncrowded market. F+R was also delighted to be able to exclusively offer the cult Pomerol producer Chateau Belle-Brise. This wine rarely ever becomes available beyond En Primeur and, given it’s a great vintage for Pomerol, wise buyers have been stocking up.

The Wine Advocate finally released their scores on Friday and Chateau Palmer was among its top performers - described as "finely crafted with exquisitely ripe and smooth yet firm tannins and sporting great mid-palate intensity and wonderful freshness, it finishes long and minerally". 96-98 points, even outscoring last year's fantastic effort!
