2018 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Week in Review #2


The first full week of the campaign is now behind us and already we have seen some top wines released. So far the Right Bank has dominated, with Chateau Angelus being the only top Grand Cru Classe released so far, causing huge interest. However, the high scoring, low priced Chateau Laroque was also an incredibly popular choice as was Chateau La Clotte from the Chateau Ausone stable, our entire allocation of which sold out in five minutes! In the latter part of the week we saw the first major releases from the Left Bank, the highlights being the Third Growth Margaux, Chateau Marquis d’Alesme, which for the time being remains remarkable value and comes highly recommended. In the flurry of releases from last week here is a round-up of the top buys that you may have missed that are still available:

Saint Emilion

Chateau Angelus – The biggest release of the campaign with a potential 100 point wine, it has been the most popular choice of the campaign so far. View Offer.

Chateau Laroque – Huge interest unsurprisingly from this little-known Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe that garnered a huge 95-97 points from Wine Advocate in 2018. View Offer.

Chateau Badette – A great value option from Saint Emilion whose quality has gone through the roof in the last few vintages. View Offer.

Chateau Tour Saint Christophe – Fantastic property, top terroir and a top recommendation for Saint Emilion. View Offer.


Chateau Tour Maillet – Very rare to find an affordable wine in Pomerol, let alone one of this standard. Great value-buy. View Offer.
