2018 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Week in Review #3

Another busy week of En Primeur with a steady flow of releases from across the appellations. The highlight release of the week had to be Chateau Clinet who produced an outstanding wine in 2018, receiving some of the highest scores ever at the property, yet releasing the wine at a significantly lower price than both its 2015 and 2016 wines. Similar to the reaction following the price reduction of Angelus 2018 a couple of weeks ago, Clinet’s price reduction combined with favourable reviews set the campaign alight and we sold unprecedented numbers, selling out on our first tranche in hours.

More outstanding bargains came in the form of “under the radar” Saint Emilion and Pomerol estates that have received amazing critic reviews in 2018 yet remain remarkably well priced. With relatively small production levels these wines will be very hard to source and are great examples of the En Primeur system offering great value and access to customers. We continued to sell through Chateau Tour Maillet from Pomerol, Chateau Laroque and Chateau Tour Saint Christophe from Saint Emilion, all are now sold out. As I write this, Chateau Sansonnet has just been released and is another small property in Saint Emilion receiving universal praise from the critics and remaining very affordable. This will no doubt sell out through the weekend.
