The latest release in the Showcase series has been curated with the fine wine aficionado in mind. Containing a selection of six wines from the 2007 vintage, these incredible cases have been carefully prepared as a "ten years on" snapshot of the best of the Old World. There are just 60 Showcases available, at £299 excl VAT & delivery.
Showcase was designed with one aim in mind: to combine six premium wines, in the prime of their drinking window, in a single case. With no other merchant in the UK offering a collection case of this calibre and breadth, Showcase presents an unparalleled opportunity to taste some incredible wines that are usually all but impossible to acquire in single bottles.
This case is a celebration of the 2007 vintage. Each wine has a decade in age and is highly-scored by the critics:
2007 L'Eglise Clinet - 94 points Robert Parker - "Unquestionably the Pomerol of the vintage"
2007 Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf du Pape - 96 points Jeb Dunnuck - "An incredible wine"
2007 Bouchard Père & Fils Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus - 90-93 points Allen Meadows - "A wine of harmony"
2007 Graham's Vintage Port - 97 points Wine Advocate - "A candidate for wine of the vintage"
2007 Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero - 94+ points Antonio Galloni - "Marvellous"
From rich, fulsome Barolo and delicious Pomerol to a Vintage Port and aristocratic, refined Burgundy, this case gives a wonderful snapshot of '07 from across European fine wine.
2007 L'EGLISE CLINET Robert Parker called this stunning Bordeaux "unquestionably the Pomerol of the vintage" and offered his "kudos" to properietor Denis Durantou. With 94 points and a mouthwatering range of rich, full-bodied fruit flavours, this is a decadent stunner of a wine that is sure to please. In Parker's words, this is "already offering delicious drinking, and should continue to do so for 15-20 years".
2007 CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE VIEILLE JULIENNE "An incredible wine" with heaps of personality, this earnt an impressive 96 points from Rhône expert Jeb Dunnuck. Dunnuck has previously called Vieille Julienne "one of my favourite producers" and from this Châteauneuf it's easy to see why. It is packed with densely layered dark fruits, crushed violets and liquorice. It's aged in old foudres and never sees any new oak.
2007 BOUCHARD PERE & FILS VIGNE DE L'ENFANT JESUS This wine is a true emblem of Burgundy. Hailing from the best portion of one of Beaune's greatest premier cru vineyards, it is stunning in any year. Meadows awarded this vintage 90-93 points and called it "a wine of harmony with a sense of completeness about it that gives it a Zen-like feel". This is a superb 'flagship' offering from Burgundy's definitive négociant.
2007 GRAHAM'S VINTAGE PORT Showcase's debut Port had to be something special and this certainly fits the bill. It was scored at a huge 97 points by the Wine Advocate, who called it "a candidate for wine of the vintage" and "complete in every way". It's a dense, super-rich and luxurious wine which is drinking spectacularly well now but could keep for decades more. If, of course you can keep your hands off it... This "tour de force" is an utter gem.
2007 HEGARTY CHAMANS BLACK KNIGHT Forget what you know about the Languedoc, because Black Knight is here to turn it on its head. From a winery founded by famed advertising mogul John Hegarty, this flagship cuvee has been well received by the critics, earning 93 points from the Wine Advocate, who praised its "deep, meaty richness" and "vibrancy of fruit". We've tried it a number of times and it's always a pleasure.
2007 BAROLO MONVIGLIERO PAOLO SCAVINO Adding a little Italian flavour to the line-up, this is an excellent showing from Barolo authority Paolo Scavino. Antonio Galloni gave it 94+ points, and called it "marvellous" and a "fascinating wine". 2007 was a great year for Barolo which produced plush, opulent and forward wines that are already a joy to drink. A brilliant insight into Scavino's style.
