As with many '05s after bottling, the nose of extract of black pinot and black cherry fruit that is also spicy and elegant has already begun to shut down and this reserve is particularly apparent on the delicious mineral suffused flavors that possess superb focus and intense detail on the layered and tautly muscular finish that goes on and on. The transparency here is stunning as is the sheer length. As I noted in Issue 25, this is absolutely a Cros to find, buy and forget as it will need even more cellar time than I originally suggested. In a word, brilliant. Allen Meadows, Burghound Jul01,2008

The 2005 Vosne-Romanee Cros Parantoux – all 50 cases worth of it – penetrates the nasal front with wild berry bitter-sweetness, distilled berry high-tones, pungent spice, and iodine. A huckleberry bitterness, blackberry, wet stone and charred meatiness on the palate all contribute to an amazingly dense and ripe, if somewhat severe impression. The finish bursts with salty, smoky, brightly-tart-berried flavors, bitter black chocolate, and meaty savor. Staining on the palate and bound to be a long keeper, this don’t-mess-with-me wine is a steel spring of Pinot. David Schildknecht-Wine Advocate # 170 Apr 2007

His production, however, is being boosted these days by a range of negociant wines under the label “Meo-Camuzet Frere et Soeur” (marked “F&S” in the listing above). The top wines had been assembled in tank and sulfured in preparation for bottling, and were suffering a bit on account of this. Wine Advocate.April, 2007

Despite a history that stretches back to the beginning of the 20th century, Méo-Camuzet is a relative newcomer to domaine-bottling, which started here in 1985. Prior to this, the Camuzet vineyards were leased out to sharecroppers and much of it sold to negociants. One such sharecropper was the legendary Henri Jayer , who acted as a consultant to the domaine.

The holdings are significant: grand crus Richebourg, Clos Vougeot and Echézaux and excellent sites in Vosne-Romanée including Cros Parantoux, Les Brulées and Les Chaumes. Three vineyards on the Vosne-Romanée side of Nuits St Georges: Boudots, Murgers and Bas de Combe complete the Côte de Nuits holdings with 1.38 hectares of village Vosne-Romanée. The domaine also has more than a hectare of grand cru Corton in the Côte de Beaune.

The style here is a full one, and Henri Jayer surely still an inspiration. The vineyards are worked organically, and the wines see up to 100% new oak, which integrates perfectly with some bottle age. The premier cru Vosne-Romanées are both from vineyards at the top of the slope, as is the Echézeaux, and these are lifted, mineral expressions of Vosne.
