As is obvious from my scores, I absolutely adored d'Angerville's two top wines. The dark ruby/purple-colored Volnay Taillepieds possesses beguiling aromas of deeply spicy blackberries and cherries, and a massively thick, highly structured, hugely extracted and sweet flavor profile oozing with tangy and lively dark cherries, cassis and wild blueberries. Notes of vanilla and Asian spices can be detected in this wine's exemplary finish. Anticipated maturity: 1999-2009. As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.||Jacques, Marquis d'Angerville is, without a doubt, one of the finest producers in Burgundy. However, prior to working in the retail wine trade I firmly believed that he did not deserve his reputation. I rapidly came to realize that the wines I had been purchasing had often been damaged by careless shipping or storage somewhere en route from his cellars to Washington, DC.||Charming, sensitive and intelligent, the Marquis produces beautifully concentrated and superbly elegant wines. Guillaume d'Angerville manages the Domaine Marquis d'Angerville with modern edge yet still preserving the well established values that have been passed on for generations: rigour, respect of the important terroirs and humility to the power of nature in every vintage.2003 saw the team strengthened with the addition of François Duvivier, who is in charge of the vineyards and cultivation. François achieved his degree in oenology at Dijon university, and on joining made his first task to move to Domaine towards bio-dynamic farming.Marquis d'Angerville will appear on wines from Volnay 1er Cru vineyards, Meursault 1er cru and Pommard 1er cru.
