There is a beguiling perfume to the high-toned nose of pure essence of red pinot fruit and herbal notes that reveal plenty of wet stone character. There is a palpable sense of underlying tension as this is particularly vibrant and this sensation is enhanced by the intense salinity that pervades both the mid-palate as well as the impressively persistent and mouth coating finish that displays just a touch of asperity. While the 2011 version is not as firm as some vintages this should reward 8 to 10 years of cellar time. Tasted: Apr 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+

The 2011 Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets has an attractive, minty bouquet with touches of mushroom and forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a chocolate-tinged entry. The tannins feel supple and the acidity nicely judged, the finish needing a few more months to fully integrate. Not a bad Volnay by any means, but in my opinion, surpassed by other vintages encountered over the years. ||These 2011s were all tasted with Guillaume d'Angerville at the domaine in Volnay. eRobertParker.com.December, 2013

Guillaume d'Angerville manages the Domaine Marquis d'Angerville with modern edge yet still preserving the well established values that have been passed on for generations: rigour, respect of the important terroirs and humility to the power of nature in every vintage.2003 saw the team strengthened with the addition of François Duvivier, who is in charge of the vineyards and cultivation. François achieved his degree in oenology at Dijon university, and on joining made his first task to move to Domaine towards bio-dynamic farming.Marquis d'Angerville will appear on wines from Volnay 1er Cru vineyards, Meursault 1er cru and Pommard 1er cru.
