Average rating 89.75

This is notably more complex if not more aromatically refined with its broad-ranging earthy, gamy and lightly spiced nose of red currant, plum and cassis hints. There is excellent volume to the engagingly vibrant, intense and well-delineated medium weight flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration as well as impressive persistence on the chalky finish. A classic Clos des Chênes of power and depth. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2019+
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is clearly a lot of new oak on the nose of the Volnay Clos des Chenes and it tends to subjugate the fruit. The palate is chewy and ripe on the entry, quite dense and sinewy but missing some grace and sophistication on the slightly over-baked finish. The spicy aftertaste is attractive, but feels a little labored compared to its peers. The previous bottle tasted at the domaine last year performed more promisingly. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014
