The final blend of 58% Cabernet Franc and 42% Merlot hit 14% natural alcohol. The yields were a low 20 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine reflects that. It is more evolved than many of the St.-Emilions in 2010, but perhaps the Cabernet Franc is giving it that wonderful juicy blueberry and floral set of aromatics. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure, surprisingly complex already, rich, savory, broad and long. It is not a blockbuster in the style of Troplong Mondot or Larcis Ducasse, for example, but it is a savory, complex, finely tuned wine to drink over the next 15+ years. This is probably the finest Trottevieille I have tasted in my three decade-plus professional career. The Casteja family have certainly been doing everything they can to improve the quality at this estate. Drink: 2013 - 2028. Wine Advocate #205 Feb 2013

A love the bright acidity and the citrus peel and red fruits on this. Then there is minerals such as flint and chalk. Full and velvety with a long, long finish. Turns silky. Best ever from here. 42 percent Merlot and 58 percent Cabernet Franc.jamessuckling.com

Racy, easy, fruity nose. Some succulence and juice though no great intensity. Very correct and even a little austere. Lots of terroir effect on the finish? Appetising but for the long term and not that concentrated. Quite intriguing. jancisrobinson.com

Dense, savoury nose with just a hint of oak. Solid attack followed by limestone terroir freshness and firm, muscular tannins. As always a little austere at this stage. James Lawther, decanter.com

Trotteville, Using a high percentage of Cabernet Franc in the blend at 58%, with the remainder being Merlot, the perfume opens with floral, chocolate mint, fennel, stone and red with black fruit aromas. Medium bodied, the wine ends with an elegant, soft, licorice and red plum finish. winecellarinsider.com
