Closed but immensely promising, this dark purple-colored wine exhibits a reticent but intriguing nose of underbrush, jammy black fruits, minerals, and vanillin. Deep, rich, and medium to full-bodied, with outstanding extract and purity, the wine possesses a seamless personality with sweeter, more integrated tannin than in the 1996. This is a vin de garde to cellar for another 7-8 years. It is not far off the splendid level of quality achieved in both 1989 and 1990. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020.I am a huge fan of this property run by Christine Valette, and have been an avid purchaser of many of her wines, particularly the 1988, 1989, and 1990. I tasted all three of these vintages in a mini-vertical in January, 1998, and they were sensationally good.Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 115

Very deep purple, garnet core. The nose is a sulky, little sod: utterly closed and yielding nothing at the moment despite vigorous swirling. A slight bretty aroma develops with time (eventually.) The full-bodied palate is tannic with broody, black fruits and rather low acidity but with aeration turns more decadent, though harmonious with just a little astringency on the finish. Needs time but it has great potential. Tasted November 2006. Drink 2010-2020. Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com

Aromas of violet, berries and cedar follow through to a full-bodied palate, with firm tannins and a medium finish. The fruit is still tied up in knots. Give it time.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. – James Suckling , Wine Spectator 2007

Very dark, seductive, polished, smooth and appeitising. Velvety texture. Odfjell admits theirs is a bit different! Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com
